Q. Can nurses use the contact hours for attending the event to meet the NDBON license renewal requirements?

A. Contact hours approved by another board of nursing or health care regulatory board (board of pharmacy, board of social work examiners, board of medicine) within the state or out-of-state will be accepted to meet the NDBON requirements as recognized CE providers. Thus, if the contact hours are approved for the conference presentations by the ND Marriage & Family Therapist Board, Board of Psychologists, and Board of Counseling Examiners, they will meet NDBON CE licensure renewal requirements.
Below we have included the calculations for different types of continuing education and recognized providers accepted to meet nurse licensure renewal requirements. The information below is taken directly from the NDBON website at here

1. Contact hours of continuing education are calculated as follows:

  • 1 contact hour (CH) = 60 minutes of instruction = 0.1 CEU
  • 1 contact hour = One Continuing Medical Education (CME)
  • 10 contact hours = One continuing education unit (CEU)
  • 10 contact hours = One academic quarter hour
  • 15 contact hours = One academic semester hour

2. NDBON recognized providers of continuing education include:

  • The North Dakota Board of Nursing.
  • An accredited college or university.
  • A health care regulatory board
  • A professional organization that is nationally accredited to approve CE.
